Custom Made Jewellery

Designed with you, made at our bench in Moonee Ponds.

The full making of a custom engagement ring at the bench, from melting the metal through to setting the stone.

Majestic Diamond is a family-run jewellery studio in Moonee Ponds, with 35 years of design and technical experience behind the bench. When you come in to talk about a custom piece, you are talking with the jeweller who will make it — not a salesperson passing your notes to a workshop somewhere else. The bench is a few steps from where you sit.

That matters most when a piece is difficult. A setting worn thin after years of wear, a stone that has to come out of one ring and live in another, a design you have only ever seen in your head — these are conversations to have with the person holding the tools.

Redesigning heirloom and inherited jewellery

More of our custom work begins with jewellery someone already owns than with a blank page. A mother's engagement ring. A father's signet. Stones from a necklace nobody wears any more, sitting in a drawer because they mean too much to sell and too little to wear as they are.

We take those pieces apart carefully, keep what carries the meaning — usually the stones, sometimes the metal — and build something around them that suits the person who will actually wear it. One client had her father's ring remade into a pendant she wears daily. Another had her mother's gemstones set into a redesigned wedding band. A ruby from a mother's necklace became a piece of its own.

If you are unsure whether a piece can be reworked, bring it in. We will tell you honestly what is possible, what the stones will take, and what we would leave alone.

Custom made engagement rings and wedding bands

We make engagement rings and wedding bands from scratch, whether you arrive with a clear picture, a photograph of something close, or very little idea beyond a feeling. Plenty of people come in knowing nothing about diamonds. That is a normal place to start, and the beginning of the conversation rather than a problem.

Rings can also be built to sit together — a band shaped to meet an existing engagement ring, or a set designed as one piece from the beginning, so nothing rubs or sits awkwardly years later.

How the process runs

We begin with a conversation in the studio about what you want, what you already have, and what you would like to spend. Nothing is committed at this stage.

From there we prepare a design for you to look at and change. You see images of the piece and confirm the details before any metal is cut — the shape, the setting, the stones, the finish. Once you are happy, the piece is made at the bench, and you collect it from the studio. Most pieces take a few weeks, depending on the work involved and the stones we are sourcing.

You are welcome to ask questions at any point. People often tell us the part they valued most was not being rushed.

Choosing the diamond

Diamond grading is genuinely confusing, and it is where most of the cost of a ring sits. Two stones with identical certificates can look quite different in the hand, which is why we would rather show you than send you away with a chart.

We will explain what actually changes how a stone looks, what is worth paying for, and where the money makes no visible difference. The aim is that you understand the choice you are making, so the ring still feels like the right decision long after you have stopped thinking about the price.

Talking about budget

Because every piece is made individually, there is no single price for a design. The setting is a modest part of the cost; the stones are most of it. Two versions of the same ring can sit a long way apart in price depending on the size and quality of diamond you choose.

This works in your favour. Tell us what you would like to spend and we will show you what is achievable at that figure, and where a small change in the stone buys back a lot of it. If a budget will not stretch to what you have in mind, we will say so rather than quietly cutting corners you cannot see.

Repairs and restoration

We also repair and restore jewellery, including work other people have declined: replacing a lost diamond, rebuilding claws worn through by an adjoining band, remaking a bangle that has been damaged beyond an ordinary fix. If a piece matters to you, it is worth asking.

A family workshop, 35 years at the bench

We are a family business, and the studio runs the way a family workshop does. The people who greet you are the people who make your piece, and they are still here when you come back years later to have it checked, resized or reworked.
